How to Install the Datadog Agent: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

Monitoring system health is crucial for modern IT infrastructure, and Datadog Agent makes this process simple and effective. This article walks through the beginner-friendly steps from Praveen Veerapogu’s video to help anyone install and configure the Datadog Agent — no prior experience required. 

1. Register for Data Dog Free Tail

  • Go to the official Datadog site: https://www.datadoghq.com/free-datadog-trial/
  • Click “Get Started Free” or “Free Trial” on the homepage.
  • Enter your email, company name, and any other required details, then click “Sign Up”.
  • Optionally select your monitoring targets or skip this section.
  • Complete the initial setup and start using your trial account.
  • The Datadog free trial lasts 14 days, with full access to monitoring features, dashboards, and integrations. No payment info is required upfront, and you can extend usage or upgrade later if needed ( you should install the Data Dog agent on the server to see the complete UI of Data Dog)

2. Create an EC2 Host in AWS with 2VCPU and 4GB RAM (LINUX/WINDOWS)

To create an AWS EC2 host with 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, use the AWS Management Console to launch an EC2 instance and select an instance type matching those specifications, such as t2.medium or t3.medium. Once you have created an EC2 host, log in to it via AWS console/PuTTY/Remote Desktop.

3. Copy the Commands from the Data Dog UI for Installing Data Dog Agent



Once you have selected the host, copy the Commands


Paste the commands into the EC2 terminal/cmd


4. Once the installation is completed, Please check in Data Dog UI
