Introduction to Davis CoPilot
Davis CoPilot is Dynatrace's generative AI tool designed to enhance productivity and onboarding through natural language interaction. This AI translates user prompts into DQL (Dynatrace Query Language) and can automatically execute these generated queries, saving users time and simplifying complex data analysis.Key applications include accelerating familiarity with DQL, quickly providing answers to support questions, and offering contextual insights, such as summaries of problems and explanations of warnings within various Dynatrace applications. The source also outlines how users can chat with Davis CoPilot for assistance and covers topics such as writing effective prompts, analyzing data in Notebooks, and Dashboards.
Davis CoPilot Core Capabilities
- Natural Language Queries → Ask about services, performance, or anomalies in plain English.
- Generate DQL Queries → Ask the queries in Simple English, it will generate DQL Queries, and we can reuse those queries for future use cases
- Dashboard Creation → Automatically create tiles or customize dashboards with simple prompts.
- Alerting & Insights → Quickly explain root causes of incidents.
- Data Exploration → Summarize logs, traces, and metrics without writing complex DQL queries.
- Automation → Suggest remediations and integrations with workflows.
Pre-requisites for using Davis CoPilot
Before you go to use Davis CoPilot in your Dynatrace Environment, you should enable it in the Environment and make sure that your user group has the correct IAM policies to access CoPilot features. Please go through the navigation path below to enable Davis CoPilot
Settings Classic -> Dynatrace Service Settings -> Davis CoPilot
1. Use Davis CoPilot in Creating Dashboards
Dynatrace’s Davis CoPilot makes it easy to create dynamic dashboards using natural language prompts. For example, if you want to fetch and monitor all hosts in your environment, simply prompt Davis CoPilot with a request like “Fetch all hosts” using Query with AI. It will automatically generate a dashboard tile displaying detailed host metrics.
Similarly, as shown in the snapshot below, I wanted to visualize the availability percentage of all synthetic monitors in my Dynatrace environment. Davis CoPilot instantly created a corresponding dashboard tile, along with the underlying DQL query—which can be reused for future analysis or automation.
2. Use Davis CoPilot in Creating Notebooks
Dynatrace Notebooks now support Davis CoPilot through the “Query with AI” option, enabling intuitive troubleshooting directly within your observability workflows. You can use Davis AI to investigate alert conditions, identify potential issues, and preview how alerts might behave before configuring them.
This proactive insight helps you fine-tune thresholds and reduce false positives. Additionally, Davis AI can generate forecasts based on historical data, offering deeper context for alert planning.
As shown in the image below, Davis CoPilot is seamlessly integrated into Dynatrace Notebooks, making it a powerful tool for interactive analysis and intelligent alert design.
3. Use Davis CoPilot to understand Alerts or Problems
Davis CoPilot is a powerful assistant for analyzing alerts and resolving issues in Dynatrace, especially helpful for new users. When investigating a specific problem, simply open the problem details and click “Explain with AI.”
Davis CoPilot will instantly analyze the issue, provide a clear explanation, and suggest remediation steps to help you resolve it efficiently. As shown in the image below, this feature streamlines troubleshooting and enhances your understanding of alert conditions.
Note: Make sure that we should open the new version problems tab, not the classic
