Unlock the Unseen: Why Private Locations are a Game-Changer for Dynatrace Synthetic Monitoring

Private Location Overview

Dynatrace private locations are useful in monitoring applications and services that are not accessible via public internet locations. These private setups are essential for monitoring internal applications situated behind firewalls and complex internal workflows, ensuring their optimal performance and availability. Furthermore, they are vital for security and compliance, keeping sensitive data traffic within controlled networks and reducing the attack surface by avoiding public exposure.

Accurate performance measurement from specific geographic locations and under particular network conditions is also a key benefit, allowing for precise data uninfluenced by external internet variability. Finally, private locations are indispensable for monitoring staging, QA, and pre-production environments, as well as legacy systems and on-premise infrastructure, and significantly aid in troubleshooting and root cause analysis by providing internal network data.

Note: Without a Private location, we can't create synthetic monitors for intranet URLs in Dynatrace. Monitoring intranet URLs manually leads to a waste of time.

The Solution: Bringing Synthetic Monitoring Inside

Dynatrace Private Locations allow you to deploy Synthetic-enabled ActiveGates within your own private network infrastructure. These ActiveGates act as local agents, executing synthetic monitors against your internal applications and services, just as Dynatrace's public locations do for external ones.
